John Grey Repair
This John Grey Banjo Ukulele was brought to SJL instrument repairs Stockport in a very sad state. It was given to the current owner recently because she runs a Ukulele club and he thought it would be useful to her and the club members. (stockport ukulele club at the fingerpost offerton, stockport. twice a month on a monday evening)
After cleaning all the parts up, removing all the old glue off the neck and fretboard I re-glued the neck and clamped it for a few days. While I waited for the glue to dry I removed the old torn vellum. I then cleaned the hoop off the old skin. Then I needed to soak the new skin for 15 minutes. Next I had to stretch the new skin around the hoop and over the body of the uke. I put the rim and stretchers back on finger tight. When the vellum dried I needed to cut off the waste skin and tighten up the stretches and re-string the instrument.
Hey presto a working and very playable old uke given a few more years life.
